Materials

  • Drill two holes in the middle of the MDF about 5 cm from each other for the legs. Keep in mind that the diameter of the holes must be the same as the round wood.
  • The length of the body is approximately 50 cm.
  • The round wood between the shoulders is 10 cm and the neck about 5 cm.
  • Insert the round wood for the body into the MDF if necessary hammer it in. Tape the shoulder section to the body. Do the same for the neck. (See photographs).
  • Paint the framework black or an color to suit.
  • Cut a length of paper for the dress and make a small hole in the middle for the neck.
  • Check the length of the dress.
  • Use wallpaper glue for the coating. You can use cooking starch as well.
  • Apply a rich coat of glue to the paper and drape it over the body skeleton.
  • Model the dress into the desired shape while using a hairdryer until it is just enough to maintain its shape. Now let it dry naturally. To speed this up a bit you can place it near a heater or radiator.
  • Cut some paper strips for the head, some 2 cm wide and a length of about 50 cm. Apply glue to the strips and drape them smoothly around the neck in the shape of a head. Don't make the head too big.
  • Paint the dress several times with acrylic paint repeat if required and with different colors. Try to use as little as possible water. Model and shape again with the hairdryer when the paper gets soaked and soft again.
  • Decorate the doll with feathers, beads, shells and seeds etc.
  • Instead of paper and wallpaper glue you can use fabric and polytex.
